Pink Chicken Grows Up

Those of you who up with the latest trends in kids' clothing have probably already heard of Pink Chicken, a popular Bohemian-style line of girls' dresses made in New York that has been worn by celebrity offspring from Stella McDermott to Violet Affleck. You can buy Pink Chicken dresses at a number of online boutiques--I'd recommend Arte Bebe.


And here's great news for those of you who, like me, have daughters who are now in the 7-14 size group. At the ENK Children's Show this summer, I learned that PInk Chicken--which had been making dresses up to size 8, has just launched a new line called Poulet Rose, which includes 'tween and teen sizes up to 15/16. So you can get that same bohemian flair that customers love with Pink Chicken, but in bigger sizes (and, thankfully, with age-appropriate details remaining--nothing trashy here). I especially like the striped knit pants; my 8-year-old lives in pants like these.

If you haven't bought your son a winter jacket yet, check out the new sale of Airwalk Puffer Jackets at Zulily. The color combos and patterns are fun without being babyish, and each purchase includes a coordinating hat or earmuffs. Another New York International Gift Fair find I want to share is the eco-friendly appliqued tees by The Green Egg. This Boston shop makes soft, organic tees (and onesies and lap tees for babies) featuring ecospun felt appliques made from recycled plastic bottles. Everything is hand-stitched and one-of-a-kind. You'll find your standard kiddie graphics (giraffes, elephants, cars, and rocketships) as well as some more offbeat ones (the Earth, a fishbowl, or a cheeseburger). Custom or personalized tees are available, too. The quality looked very good in person and, really, each design is a winner. Perfect Fall Dress

My six-year-old loves the ease of comfy cotton dresses that slip right on over her head. We've never tried Garnet Hill's best-selling knit tiered dress but I think we might this Fall. I love all three patterns they are offering this season- Brown Dot, Aqua Floral, and Chocolate Butterflies. The rib-knit dresses are made of eco-friendly Green Cotton and have extra girly touches like an empire waist, lettuce-edges on each tier, and picot trim. $36 each (two or more for $31 each) in sizes 2T-6 at Garnet HIll.

Bargain Alert: Corduroy Patchwork Jumper

I stumbled onto this Lilypod Patchwork Corduroy Jumper at One of a Kind Kid. Isn't it perfect for Fall? I love the bold mix of colors- it reminds me a little bit of the clothes I wore as a little girl in the 70s. Fully fashioned with lining, side vents with bow, and back zipper. Hanna Andersson Cold Snap Sale

My kids start school next week, which means I'm already behind the 8-ball on buying this season's winter coats. For S., I'm considering this Warmest Reversible Down Jacket from Hanna Andersson. Have any of you ordered outerwear from them before? Have you been pleased with it? The options in general for boys' outerwear are kind of limited and I like the styling on this one (he picked the color combo he likes best--I preferred the red version). I had already bought S. the Halloween word pajamas shown at left a few weeks ago, which is too bad since they went on sale today at CWD Kids along with several other Halloween-style PJs. I particularly liked these because the word-themed design is something different from your standard orange, pirate-and-skull themed boys' PJs for the holiday. Grab them now while they're on sale for $23.99 (regularly $30) in sizes 2-16 (cute for siblings!) at CWD Kids.

Barn Raising

Having been priced out of some higher-end barn jackets by Polo and Crewcuts, I opted for this quilted barn jacket by Gap Kids for my son so he could coordinate this Fall with his sister in her new "Swilty" jacket from Old Navy. For $44.50, this barn jacket is high on style with hip pockets and corduroy trim including elbow patches. Boys sizes XS (4/5) through XXL (13/14) at Gap Kids.

Boys' Elastic Waist Pants on Sale

I know that some of you are looking for boys' elastic waist pants for Fall. Since my own 5-year-old has some fine motor delays, he's not quite adept at buttons and zippers. I'd prefer to send him kindergarten in elastic waist pants. But he now wears a size 6/7 and many brands only use elastic through toddler sizes. Unfortunately, I had already ordered all of my daughter's Peter-Pan collared uniform shirts from Lands End, but those of you who still have to order school uniforms will be interested in the Back to School Sale with last-minute savings up to 50%. Little Maven in Person at Bloomingdale's

I was in Bloomingdale's a few days ago and stumbled right into the display of Tori Spelling's new children's clothing line Little Maven. I managed to take a few photographs before the salespeople started giving me funny looks. I really, really like these clothes, which (if you watch Tori's show on Oxygen), she was very involved with designing. And I think the boys' clothing is even cuter than the girls' pieces- which moms of boys know is a rare thing.
