Size S - chest = 36", length = 22.5"
Size M - chest = 38", waist = 23.5"
Size S - I ended up returning this color because...ehhhh...I don't remember. But, someone sent an email to me about the sweater and here are answers to the questions. I didn't find it tight in the arms, per se, but they're fitted. No, I don't think the sweater is loosely woven, but there's a definite weave pattern that's visible. Kind of like when you 1st start knitting and you're all excited about your basic stitches. A pattern very visible like that. I did not find it to be sheer. I did find it to form to my body, as you can see in the photo.
I recommend your normal size because of the raised stitch pattern. If you size down & have a larger chest, the sweater will stretch across it. I know this runs down to XXS, which is sometimes an indicator to size down one. However, I felt if I got an XS, there would be the moire (sp) effect, like the jumping you see sometimes when photos are taken of stripes. I also felt it might accentuate my chest in a bad way, looking too tight & ill fitting. I'm a 34C and size S is 36" in the chest but I felt S was the best size. As far as the shape, I didn't find it to be a trapeze shape, "fitted at bust, but flares out." A swingy, trapeze sweater is the stripe swingtime sweater.
I wouldn't say the shortcut sweater is boxy either. It seemed to fit form to my body & post partum I expect it to look fitted with some slack or slouch. I'm pretty much the same size in the upper 1/3 of my torso. Maybe a smidge bigger. For those that gauge off of my size, I hope this pic is helpful, belly & all. Check it out on Little Tin Soldier, on Ruffles and Sequins (pic 6), on Handbag Aficionado (pics of navy & muslin) and on ShOperaRach.
